He embarked for overseas as a Sergeant (service number 13457) from Melbourne on 22 December 1916 aboard HMAT Persic. While serving in France with the 5th Divisional Mechanical Transport Company, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 7 October 1918. 
He returned to Australia as a Lieutenant on 30 January 1919.

Was reported as Missing in Action at Euacort on March 25, 1918.  It was later accepted that his death occurred on or after March 25, 1918.

Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal at Noreuil 
“For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty.  He led his section against a strong position with great skill and courage, and, later, though wounded, continued to control his men at a critical period”.
He returned to Australian on February 15, 1918.
He served in World War II as a Lieutenant Colonel (July 1, 1939) to command 43rd Battalion AMF.  Appointed CO of 2/10th Battalion, 2nd A.I.F. on October 13, 1939.
Died on December 31, 1974.

Studio portrait of exchanged Australian Prisoner of War (POW) 1834 Sergeant (Sgt) George Ainsley Videon, 10th Battalion, from Kensington, South Australia. 
Born 10 January 1885 at Norwood, South Australia
Son of Frederick VIDEON & Catherine Anne nee MOCK

Sgt Videon enlisted at the age of 30 on 23 December 1914 and embarked for overseas on 1 April 1915 aboard HMAT Port Lincoln. After he served at Gallipoli, he went on to serve on the Western Front where he was wounded and captured at Mouquet Farm, France, on 22 August 1916. He was held as a POW in various camps in Germany and while at Munster Camp III he wrote to AIF Headquarters in London on 15 September 1916, "I am writing to you informing you that I am in Germany a Prisoner. I was wounded on the 21st Aug. and taken on the 22nd. I am sorry to inform you that my brother (Walter Lloyd Videon) 10th Battalion, A.I.F. was severely wounded and died during the night of August 21st." Sgt Videon was exchanged to Holland on 12 October 1918, arrived in England on 18 November 1918 and arrived back in Australia on 1 February 1919. One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E. Chomley, Secretary, Prisoners Department, Australian-British Red Cross Society, London. Original album housed in AWM Research Centre at RC00864, Album image number 312.

Studio portrait of 3946 Walter Lloyd Videon, 10th Battalion, of Henley Beach, SA. A driver prior to enlisting in August 1915, Pte Videon embarked from Adelaide with the 12th Reinforcements on board RMS Malwa on 2 December 1915. He was killed in action at Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, France, on 21 August 1916. Pte Videon was 19 years of age.

Formerly a mechanic, Pte Vigar enlisted on 11 March 1915 and he embarked from Adelaide aboard HMAT Geelong, (A2), on 31 May 1915. He later served on the Western Front with the 2nd Pioneer Bn and he was killed in action at Bullecourt on 6 May 1917, aged 24 years. The soldier (right) is unidentified.
